Cleaning Your Dogs Teeth – How To Clean Your Dogs Teeth

Cleaning Your Dogs TeethAfter your dog’s puppy teeth have fallen out it is important to clean their teeth regularly. You should start brushing your dogs teeth even before their baby teeth fall out so that you get them used to it. You can buy a dog toothbrush and toothpaste (never use your own toothpaste on your dog) at a local pet store in Saratoga Springs or at your dogs veterinarian office. Toothbrushes come in different varieties and sizes. Some toothbrushes go over your finger and others look just like human toothbrushes.

First step is to squeeze the dog toothpaste onto the toothbrush then ask your dog to sit. If your dog doesn’t seem to like the toothbrush at first and is fussy try sticking just the toothbrush with no toothpaste in his or her mouth to get them used to it. Do not force the toothbrush into your dogs mouth and start brushing. Gently brush your dogs teeth in a back and fourth and in a circular motion. Brush around the front and back of the mouth and make sure to get both sides as best you can. Once you are done brushing praise your dog for being good. If your dog is being fussy try brushing with just the toothbrush a couple of times a day and reward your dog with a treat each time after you brush so your dog associates brushing their teeth with treat rewards.
