Q. How often should I brush my dog?

A. Brushing your dog once a week or so will keep their coat shiny and health, removing dead skin, hair and stimulating the oils that keep their coat healthy. One of the most frequent question people ask is “how to reduce dog shedding”? Consistent brushing will help to minimize shedding. I also recommend using Linatone Daily Food Supplement for Dogs. I have used this product for years and my dogs have always had beautiful and shiny fur coats all year long!

Q. Should I give my dog a bath?

A. Bathing your dog once a month is fine. I typically give my dogs a bath when the seasons change (about 4-5 times a year). As with all dogs, shampoo formulated for their particular type of skin and hair is a must so as not to dry them out or irritate sensitive areas.

Q. How should I clean my dog’s ears?

A. Some dogs ears are susceptible to infection – check out our tips for cleaning your dog’s ears here.

Q. What about pests?

A. Spring is here! It’s essential to keep your dog flea, tick and worm free. There are a number of safe, easy-to-use products on the market that will do the job nicely. I like to use K9 Advantix for my Labrador and Beagle.

Q. Do a dogs’ nails need trimming?

A. Are your dogs’ nails are too long? If they’re scraping the ground or you can hear him when he walks, it’s time for a trim. You can purchase dog nail clippers from your veterinarian or local pet store, where the staff will be able to give you instructions on how to do this yourself.

Q. How do I clean my dogs eyes out?

A. It’s important to keep your dog’s eyes clean and clear of ‘gunk’. Some dogs have “tear stains” which can be a result of excessive tearing, diet, even fleas.  Gently clean your dogs ears with a soft cotton cloth. If the eyes look red or inflamed, bring your dog to the veterinarian.
